GOURMET GUIDE - MAY 2007  By Deborah Brindamour
Gourmet Guide
I have lived in Rhode Island practically my entire life and have somehow managed never to visit Federal Hill. Until now. With her extensive knowledge of the area and robust Italian roots, Chef Cindy Salvato has shown me…. "The Hill".  Her market tour of the area led our group of ten through food stores, gourmet delis and bakeries, just to name a few of our stops along the way!

SKYLIGHTS MAGAZINE - JANUARY 2007  By Brenda D. Farrell
From the sun-splashed harbors of Narragansett Bay to the genteel streets of Providence's historic East Side, there's a commonly held belief that Rhode Islanders may travel, but seldom move away. And why should they? Here in the nation's smallest state, an abundance of aesthetic delights can be found on just about any city street or village square.

RI MONTHLY - APRIL 2006   By Lydia Walshin
"MEET AT THE FOUNTAIN next to Venda at 9." The emailed instructions sound like some sort of coded message. (In fact, I'm whispering as I write this.) I pack a notebook and sunglasses, and slip on my comfy walking shoes. One large cup of coffee later, I arrive in DePasquale Square to rendezvous with Shopping Federal Hill: An Insider's Italian Food Tour.

RI Market Tours -- Best of '06

We had the best time on your Federal Hill Tour! The rain didn't hamper the tour one bit! The information that you gave us at every stop was interesting and fun ... and the food - what can we say!?! Everything was delicious and we enjoyed trying new things! We went back and bought many of the items that you recommended or that we tried, and look forward to trying more! We have already recommended your tour to everyone we know! So many exclaimation points! But that's how we felt about our day!
— Pam, Marshfield, MA

Hi Cindy,
I just wanted to tell you HOW MUCH I enjoyed the Federal Hill tour yesterday! It was not only informative but a lot of fun. I would do it again and I will recommend it to everyone. Also, I look forward to doing one of your many culinary classes soon!
— Cassandra

My husband and I went along with friends who had done the tour previously. What a great time!! We had planned on having lunch after the tour, but were too full after all the samples. I am telling all of my friends!!! Thank you, Cindy.
— Nancy S., Rhode Island

Thanks so much for the wonderful tour. It was outstanding! I felt like I was truly back in Italy. Even though I was aware of "The Hill" and certainly grew up in a family who shopped there, I sort of got out of the habit of going there. Your tour has reawakened my great love of Italian food and I certainly will be back to enjoy the flavor of not only the food, but also the people.
— Marian, Smithfield, RI

"Just a note to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Saturday's walking tour of Federal Hill. Your knowledge and charm are a winning combination! After the tour, I made the rounds of the shops we had visited and brought home a feast to be remembered for my family. It was a great day, rain and all!"
— Pat, Newton, MA

"The culinary tour was fun, entertaining and delicious - all of which was good for reviving one's weary soul. The Federal Hill Italian restaurants and food purveyors can go toe to toe with Italian restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston."
— Maria & Fred, Chicago, IL

"I absolutely loved the tour I had with you on the 18th of February. I have been raving about it ever since! Grazie mille! I can't wait for the weather to warm up to enjoy the hill even more!"
— Yamil, Providence, RI

"Cindy's tour of Federal Hill is 'fantastico!' Her knowledge of this historic Italian area of our capital, coupled with her friendliness and professionalism, made this a most enjoyable day for our group. A definite must-do for any Italian or culinary enthusiasts."
— Shirley, Sons of Italy, Newport RI

"Being from Florida, I found that going on a tour of Federal Hill was the best way to see the area. Learning the history and meeting the people who work there was very interesting. The tasty snacks were delicious!"
— Sarah from Boca Raton, FL

"Cindy's Federal Hill Tour is a delicious and fun way to be introduced to great food and wine in an authentic Italian tradition."
— Halina from No. Stonington, CT

"Three friends and I took your remarkable tour of Federal Hill and we all had a wonderful time. We were entertained, educated and certainly enticed back. I enjoyed it so much I gave it as a gift to my daughter and son-in-law."
— Carol from Middletown, RI

"I love 'foodie' tours and have taken a bunch of them. This tour is the best of the lot. Cindy appears to be a local celebrity and has great access to the back rooms of this historic shopping neighborhood. I will highly recommend this to my friends. I left "the hill" loaded down with goodies from the shops we visited. Amazing to have something like this in Providence!"
— Ken from Rhode Island
